"CAMP Troops OUT!" by Zool, Green Party activist in NYC
It cannot be denied that Cindy Sheehan revitalized the antiwar movement when she pitched camp in that Crawford ditch. "Camp Caseys" sprung up across the nation in August 2005. In Union Square, New York City, our little tent put the police in a frenzy. Antiwar activists everywhere renewed the debate on the already long war in Iraq.
In September 2006, many "Camp Caseys" metamorphosed into "Camp Democracy" on the National Mall between the White House and the Washington monument. Some activists had hope that the war would be ended when the Democrats took back the House at the other end of the Mall.
On the fourth anniversary of this mad catastrophe, neither House appears ready to end the war in Iraq. Not in the middle of the fight to take the White House in 2008.
Will we wait? The will of the people to bring our troops home now will not be realized by either House at either end of the Mall. These are no longer the peoples' Houses. We have only the ground between.
Cindy climbed into a ditch to help us get out of one. Who will climb into the ditch between a criminal administration occupying OUR White House and a corrupt Congress occupying OUR House?
Will you join "CAMP Troops OUT!" on the Mall at Third Street in Washington DC?
Can you pitch your tent today, tomorrow, this weekend? The troops will come home when the people hold the ground. OUR troops, OUR ground.Labels: Encampment to Stop the War |
